February 2006February 19, 26, March 5, 12 - Intensive Study 4-day Monotype Printing Workshop with Armando Rodriguez - Also known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques, monprints and monotypes are essentially printed paintings. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike; although images can be similar, editioning is not possible. The appeal of monotype lies in the unique translucency that creates a quality of light very different from a painting on paper or a print, and the beauty of this media is also its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting, and drawing mediums. $190 for members. Contact Art League Houston for more information, (713) 523-9530 or .mary@artleaguehouston.org February 18 - Spring Class Registration Opens. Griffith’s controversial 1915 film and blockbuster hit, The Birth of a Nation, which depicts the Ku Klux Klan as liberating people from the African American menace. Despite its subject matter, the film is still included as one of the 100 greatest classic American Films by the American Film Institute. The show consists of large-scale drawings on paper, intended to be fictitious Birth of a Nation comic book covers. On view through March 3. Press Release...
